& HOPE

Dixon High School's Art Department

came out to DG in May 2006

for a very special spring

final art project.

It was not the first collaboration

between DHS and DG,

but as time moved on

it proved to be one of the last.

  Lisa Kastello earned

her doctorial degree

and has since moved on.

  She is currently a professor

at the University of Nebraska

teaching teachers to be teachers.

  But her work with

her students in Dixon

lives on as many

of these projects

are permenantly installed

on DG grounds.

Brainchild of the ''two Lisa's'',

Lisa K of DHS and Lisa H of DG,

Artificial Obsolescense

and Hope

illustrates current trends

in society and suggests

hopeful solutions.

  The grounds of

Distinctive Gardens

were transformed by

Ms. Kastello’s

three advanced art classes.

The front half of the grounds

detailed current trends

in today’s society.

  The back half were the

response to those trends.

Ms. Kastello and

Ms. Higby LeFevre

worked cooperatively

to devise and integrate

six art projects that

illustrated the basic theme.

 Art making occured both

at school and live on the

grounds of Distinctive Gardens.

  The art installation

culminated with an

art opening on

Friday, May 26, 2006.
